How to Check and Update Your Contact Details at SARS

SARS sends authorisation requests and one-time passwords to the email address and cell number held on your personal eFiling profile. If either is out of date, those messages never arrive and the request cannot be actioned. This guide shows you how to check and correct them.

Why this matters more than it sounds

When SARS asks a registered representative to approve something, the request is delivered by email or SMS and nowhere else. If the details SARS holds are old, the request is issued, sits open, and quietly expires without anyone seeing it — and the registration behind it goes nowhere. Checking these details takes a few minutes and prevents weeks of delay.

Log in with your own eFiling details. This is the official SARS service — Didiserv cannot change your contact details for you.

Open SARS eFiling

Step-by-Step Process

01

Log in to SARS eFiling

Go to secure.sarsefiling.co.za and log in with your own eFiling username and password.

02

Select the correct portfolio and taxpayer

If you have more than one portfolio, choose the right one, then select the taxpayer you are working on.

03

Click "User" in the menu

Open the User menu from the eFiling navigation.

04

Click "Change Details"

This opens the page showing the contact details SARS currently holds for you.

05

Check the email address and cell number shown

Read them carefully. If either one is an old address or an old number, that is why SARS messages are not reaching you.

06

Click "Edit contact details"

This makes the fields editable so you can correct them.

07

Update the email address and cell number

Replace anything outdated with the email address and cell number you actually use and check daily.

08

Save the changes

Save before leaving the page, otherwise the old details stay in place.

09

Complete the SARS verification

SARS sends a verification message to both the new email address and the new cell number. Follow both to confirm the change — the update is only complete once you have.

Common Issues

These are your personal details, not the company's

SARS sends authorisation requests and one-time passwords to the contact details on the representative's own eFiling profile. Updating the company's details does not change where these messages go.

You need an eFiling profile to make the change

If you do not have your own eFiling profile, contact details cannot be updated online. You would need to register at secure.sarsefiling.co.za, or visit a SARS branch.

A request already sent will not be re-delivered

Correcting your details does not resend a request SARS has already issued. That request has to lapse first, and a new one is lodged afterwards — which is why it is worth fixing your details as soon as you notice the problem.

Check spam and promotions before assuming details are wrong

SARS messages are frequently filtered. Search your mailbox for messages from SARS, including junk, spam and promotions, and check your phone's SMS list, before concluding the details are out of date.
